He began his career as a reporter for several newspapers, then became editor in chief and publisher of France-Soir, the Paris evening paper that he helped found with Pierre Lazeraff. France-Soir helped redefine French journalism; it was a lively, popular, political newspaper with a keen sense of the news and with correspondents stationed around the world.
