1 Siegvolk, Paul ; [pseudonym of Albert Mathews ] A BUNDLE OF PAPERS [ First Edition 1879 ]
New York G. P. Putnam's Sons 1879 First Edition Hardcover Near Fine
326 pages; Publisher's brown ribbed cloth, covers with beveled edges, title lettered in gilt on the spine, with a gilt decorative device on the front cover depicting a bundle of papers. Endpapers with a delicate floral pattern printed in brown over grey. This copy is clean, bright and tight, showing just a hint of the lightest rubbing at the spine ends and a few flecks of mottling at the fore-edges, faint stamped name of an owner on the front free endpaper. OCLC: 5323499 Written by Albert Mathews, 1820-1903, cousin of the American writer and editor Cornelius Mathews. Albert Mathews graduated from Yale in 1842 and was admitted to the New York Bar in 1845. He also published a novel: "Walter Ashwood: A Love Story" in 1860. This copy is a lovely example of the first edition of "A Bundle of Papers." The pieces include a short memoir of fishing on the St. Laurence, "Musings of a City Railroad Conductor" and an essay: "Superficialness of People who Live in Large Cities." ; Experience the pleasure of reading and appreciating this actual printed item. It has its own physical history that imbues it with a character lacking in ephemeral electronic renderings.
