In 1905 John Macy, who at the time was an instructor at Harvard University, a social critic, and a prominent socialist, married Anne Sullivan, teacher of Helen Keller. Sullivan continued to be Keller's guide and mentor after her wedding. After several years of marriage, with the stress of Helen Keller living with them, they separated. Nonetheless, Macy is credited with having influenced Keller's sympathies to socialism, as expressed in her book Out of the Dark. Along with Walter Lippmann, Macy was the socialist secretary to Mayor Lunn of Schenectady. Both Lippmann and Macy (who followed him as Lunn's secretary) were critical of the administration. Price:
