Miscellaneous Authors ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN - A Selection of Buildings erected by George A. Fuller Company New York Architectural Catalog Co., Inc. 1937 First Edition Plastic Comb Very Good Vol. XIII. June 1949; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 58, 52 pages; Tall quarto volume bound in original stiff card wrappers and plastic comb spine. Clean and complete, minor edgewear to wrappers. This volume is devoted to the Gearge A. Fuller Company. George A. Fuller (1851-1900) was an architect often credited as being the "inventor" of modern skyscrapers and the modern contracting system. Fuller's firm also built the Rookery Building, the Rand McNally Building, the Pontiac Building and the Monadnock Building in Chicago, and the New York Times Building in New York City. The Fuller Company was also intensely involved in the building of the Chicago World's Fair of 1893, the Columbian Exposition, in which a temporary "White City on the Lake" was constructed under the supervision of Daniel Burnham. Following the death of Fuller, Harry S. Black, Fuller's son-in-law, took over as president of the Fuller Company. Black aggressively expanded the capitalization and operations, and recruited for the board of directors such men as Henry Morgenthau, Sr., Hugh J. Grant, and banker James Stillman -- creating what became known as the "skyscraper trust". Among the many buildings constructed by the Fuller Company under Black were Pennsylvania Station, the Flatiron Building, Macy's flagship store on Broadway and 34th, the New York Times Building in Times Square, the Plaza Hotel on Grand Army Plaza and Central Park South and the Savoy-Plaza Hotel across Fifth Avenue. Other projects (pictured in this volume) are the Lincoln Memorial, the U.S. Supreme Court, the D.A.R. Hall, U.S. Department of Interior. U.S. Senate Office Bldg., U.S. Dept. of Justice, .S. Archives Bldg, 100 Park Ave in New York, Marshall Field Bldg., Rare Book Library at Harveard, Biltmore Hotel in New York, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Bldg in California, Pennsylvania Station in New York ... 58 pages (mostly photographs of Buildings erected by George A. Fuller Company), 53 pages of ads for architects and architectural supply companies. Price:
