Contents clean and tight, binding has some minor wear at spine ends, but cloth clean, gilt lettering bright. Endpapers splitting over hinges, but binding secure. Portrait frontispiece with facsimile autograph. Philip Doremus's father built a general store in Montclair, NJ in 1811. After studying merchandizing in New York, Philip returned to Montclair in 1848. He built a new store on the site of his father's original in 1853 and again in 1890. He was a founder of the Montclair Bank and the Montclair Savings Bank.
