MILES ALDRIDGE - I Only Want You to Love Me, Aldridge, Miles
5 Aldridge, Miles MILES ALDRIDGE - I Only Want You to Love Me
New York Rizzoli 2013 0847840360 / 9780847840366 First Edition Hardcover Very Good 4to 11" - 13" tall
288 pages; Contents clean and tight in original bright colourful pictorial covers, upper corners mildly bumped. A fabulous book of photographs. The first monograph from the brilliant fashion photographer Miles Aldridge. With a cinematic approach to fashion photography, Miles Aldridge creates singular scenes with psychologically complex characters in surreal and fantastic settings. His brilliant, candy-colored images engage viewers with an appealing mix of overt sexuality and sweetness. No detail is left uncovered in his eye-popping, erotically charged fashion photographs, which transform slightly sordid scenarios into acid-hued glamour. Each photograph is a complex world unto itself, and these lush images invite viewers to linger, for there is always something else to see, some deeper layer of meaning to uncover.

CROZIER IRVINE [Exhibition catalogue: William Crozier & William Irvine], Anonymous
17 Anonymous CROZIER IRVINE [Exhibition catalogue: William Crozier & William Irvine]
London Drian Gallery 1958 First Edition Softcover Very Good- Oblong 8vo
[8] pages; The rear wrapper has a parallel brief artistic c.v. of the pair. A minor hint of creasing to the fragile publication, and some rubbing to the rear wrapper. OCLC Number: 78797695 (and two other OCLC numbers, each with a single location -- UC Santa Barbara; The Frick, and the Tate). Stapled catalogue in self wrappers for a joint show by two Williams -- Crozier and Irvine, both born in Scotland and educated at the Glasgow School of Art (1949-53). After graduation, both artists went down to London and explored Soho. After an initial show with a third artist at the Parton Gallery, Halima Nalecz invited Crozier and Irvine to show at the Drian Gallery in Porchester Place, which she had founded to show the work of abstractionists or near-abstractionists who were being ignored by the establishment. Crozier married, and then re-married, and found his way to Ireland for at least part of each year, where his second wife, the art historian Katharine Crouan edited the magnificent monograph on Crozier published in 2007; Crozier died in 2011. Irvine married an American in London, and moved with her back to her native Maine, where he still paints in Brooklin. This early joint catalogue represents an exhibition held Sept. 23-Oct. 13, 1958. There are photographic portraits of the two young artists, and each gets a page of biographical notes and a full-page b/w reproduction of a painting.

Cambridge, Massachusetts Hayden Library MIT 1963 First Edition Softcover Very Good 8vo
Unpaginated pages; Publisher's grey wrappers, reproducing a sheet of drawings by Dimitri Hadzi for a sculpture "Elmo IV" given to MIT by Mr. and Mrs. Samuel A. Marx. Catalogue of an exhibition held at the New Gallery, Hayden Library, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, May 14 through June 16, 1963. Dimitri Hadzi (1921 - 2006) was an American abstract sculptor who lived and worked in Rome, and then in the vicinity of Boston, Massachusetts. Contents include a biography of the artist, a four-page catalogue of works exhibited and four full page b/w halftone photographs of sculptures. He was born on March 21, 1921, in New York City to Greek-American immigrant parents, and following a brief career as a chemist, served in the South Pacific, in World War II. He studied at Cooper Union, and then at the Museo Artistico Industriale in Rome. Hadzi was a 1957 Guggenheim Fellow, and showed at the 1962 Venice biennale. He won a 1974 Rome Prize. Until the fall of 2013, visitors to Harvard who arrived via the Harvard Square MTA Station were confronted by his huge "Omphalos." [The MBTA had commissioned the work as part of its Arts on the Line program, and exposure to this major crossroads caused some wear and tear -- it was taken down in August, 2013, but it will be relocated to Rockport, Massachusetts after some needed restoration]. This scarce catalogue appears to be Hadzi's second exhibition in the U.S. See OCLC Number: 47713237 (six locations; there is another copy in New Zealand recorded in Worldcat under another OCLC number).
