A nonce volume of the prolific German linguist C. A. F. Mahn's Italian textbooks (for German readers), consisting of I: Lehrbuch der Italienischen Sprache, Erster Theil (Berlin, 1830); II: Lehrbuch der Italienischen Sprache, Zweiter Theil, Erstes Heft (Berlin, 1834); III: La Gerusalemme Liberata di Torquato Tasso, Herausgegeben von C. A. F. Mahn, Erster Gesang (Berlin, 1835), and finally, several advertisements, notices, and other fragments relating to Mahn's various texts, critical works and guides to the several modern languages he mastered and taught. A very good copy, with the ownership signature of H. Drisler on the front free-endpaper. [American scholar Henry Drisler was a contemporary of Longfellow's who had a long career at Columbia from the 1830's, including appointments as Professor of Latin and Greek (1857 & 1867) and a tenure as acting President of Columbia. Drisler was co-editor of the influential Anthon text editions, and was also a co-editor of the seventh revised edition of the Liddell-Scott Greek Lexicon, and general editor of the Harper classical series]. ; Experience the pleasure of reading and appreciating this actual printed item. It has its own physical history that imbues it with a character lacking in ephemeral electronic renderings.
