Ivan Nikolayevitsh Panin (1855 1942) was a Russian emigrant to the United States who achieved fame for discovering numeric patterns in the text of the Hebrew and Greek Bible. Exiled at the age of 18 for for engaging in subversive activity (teaching serfs and workers), Panin emigrated first to Germany (1874-1877), then to the U.S. where entered Harvard University. He graduated in 1882 with a Master of Literary Criticism and embarked upon a career as a lecturer on literary criticism. He was a popular and successful lecturer and his work on Russian Literature, collected in this book, was published in 1889. In 1890 he became fascinated with the first chapter of the Book of John in the Bible. Consequently, he abandoned his well established agnosticism and became a Christian. From that point forward, Panin concentrated his research on revealing numerical patterns throughout the Hebrew language of the Old Testament and the Greek language of the New Testament.
