Bennet was a London medical doctor who visited Mentone for a winter rest cure. The first edition of this work was an essay on the winter climate and vegetation of the Mentone area. By this third edition, Bennet has greatly expanded the work covering six winters spent at the various destinations augmented with meteorological tables, temperature charts, and an index. Four colour maps (2 folding) - Sicily, Corsica, Mentone and Southern Europe - by Mr. Stanford of Charing Cross. Sixteen wood engravings by Butterworth and Heath, mostly taken from photographs by Davenne. Minor rubbing on rear board.
