| 4. | Mann, Thomas Königliche Hoheit - Roman Berlin Deutsche Buch-Gemeinschaft Hardcover Very Good+ ; 8vo; 468 & [4] pages; Mit einer Vorrede von Hanns Martin Elster. Publisher's yellow pattern-printed boards backed with tan leather, red label, gilt decorative stamping. Top edges stained red. Minor rubbing at the spine ends, but still clean, sound and attractive. Thomas Mann's second novel, Königliche Hoheit, was first published in 1909 [Berlin: S. Fischer]. This edition in half leather was published by the Deutsche Buch-Gemeinschaft without a date, but from internal evidence, 1928 seems most likely. [On a list at the rear of this volume of Mann's books published by Fischer-Verlag, the 3-volume collected tales published during 1928 does not yet appear]. Modern critics have associated the theme of Königliche Hoheit with Mann's own marriage to Katia and the cessation of his early homosexuality. A scarce and agreeable edition from the days of the Weimar Republic -- see OCLC: 36823672. Bürgin no. 7a.
