Cunningham extracted from Cushing's History of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Including its Early Settlement... also Portraits of Some of its Prominent Men. Chicago: A. Warner & Co., 1889. The portrait measures 10" by 7" with the image and facsimile autograph centered; protective tissue guard in place. Dominick O. Cunningham was president of the D. O. Cunningham Glass Company of Pittsburgh. He was born in Norway in 1834 and received early training in the glass business. The Cunningham family's glass business was originally established in 1849 as Pittsburgh City Glass Works by Wilson Cunningham, father of Dominick. In 1865 the firm became Cunninghams & Ihmsen and in 1878 the interest of Dominick Ihmsen was purchased and the firm became Cunninghams & Company; two years later Dominick Cunningham was the sole owner. The political affiliations of Mr. Cunningham were the protection wing of the Democratic Party. He was also one of the incorporators of the Manufacturers' Bank of the South Side.
