Chicago: A. Warner & Co., 1889. The portrait measures 10" by 7" with the image and facsimile autograph centered; protective tissue guard in place. Engraved by F. G. Kernan. William P. Wampler was born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania in 1844; his grandfather Jacob Wampler was a native of Germany and a pioneer of Westmoreland County, PA. At the age of seventeen, William Wampler enlisted in Company I of the 63rd Pennsylvania Volunteers and served from the siege of Yorktown to the bombardment of Petersburg. After the War, Wampler established himself in the lumber business and became very successful. He was a director of the People's Savings Bank, and later the First National Bank of McKessport. He was a Freemason and a Democrat.
