Autograph; xxxiv & 807 pages; Publisher's textured maroon cloth, spine and front cover lettered in gilt. In a dust jacket which shows edgewear and modest chipping and tears at the top of the spine. From the library of Supreme Court Associate Justice Potter Stewart [1915-1985]] - with an inscription from the author on the front free endpaper in ink: "For Justice Stewart / Who set the highest / standard for all of / us who worked for you. / [signed] Monroe E. Price / 5/73. " During Justice Potter Stewart's tenure tenure on the Supreme Court (1958-1981), he made major contributions to criminal justice reform, civil rights, access to the courts, and Fourth Amendment jurisprudence. Both Justice Stewart and the author of this book, Monroe E. Price, were distinguished graduates of the Yale Law School. Justice Stewart graduated in 1941, where he was an editor of the Yale Law Journal and a member of Phi Delta Phi. Monroe Price graduated magna cum laude from Yale, where he was executive editor of the Yale Law Journal. After graduation, he clerked for Justice Potter Stewart of the U.S. Supreme Court and was an assistant to Secretary of Labor W. Willard Wirtz. Price then became deputy director of California Indian Legal Services, one of the founders of the Native American Rights Fund, and it was at this period that he wrote this groundbreaking study: "Law and the American Indian." This copy shows a minor tide mark from damp exposure to the edges of the text block, but there is no water staining to the margins of the leaves, and certainly, no rippling or other sign of damp internally. Monroe E. Price has continued to advance in legal and academic spheres, having served as Dean of the Benjamin Cardozo School of Law from 1982 to 1991. Currently, he is a Professor at Annenberg East and Director of the Center for Global Communication Studies at the Annenberg School, as well as holding the titles Director of the Stanhope Centre for Communications Policy Research in London and Chair of the Center for Media and Communication Studies of the Central European University in Budapest and the Joseph and Sadie Danciger Professor of Law and Director of the Howard M. Squadron Program in Law, Media and Society at Benjamin Cardozo School of Law. ; Signed by Author; Experience the pleasure of reading and appreciating this actual printed item. It has its own physical history that imbues it with a character lacking in ephemeral electronic renderings.
