167 pages; Publisher's green cloth, beveled edges, decorative lettering in gilt on front cover and spine, additional decorative stamping in black and in blind, chocolate brown endpapers, all edges gilt. Date is approximate, none printed. A handsome copy, the binding shows just a bit of the lightest rubbing at the tips of the spine ends and points of the corners. Some diffuse foxing scattered throughout the text leaves, which are elegantly set within decorative framed borders of rules and type ornaments at the corners. [Cover title is: "Poems of Consolation"]. There is an engraved oval vignette on the title page depicting a young child. Dedication leaf: "In Loving Memorial of Grace and Amy." The poems are drawn from both English and American sources, with contributions by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, James Russell Lowell, Gerald Massey, Lydia Sigourney, etc. Several are anonymous.
