(XVI, 853 p., [32] c. di tav. ; 836 p., [35] c. di tav.) 28 cm. tall Friedrich Ratzel (1844 – 1904) was a German geographer and ethnographer, famous for his work related to the realist theory of international relations and the geography of states. During his travels and explorations his perspective shifted from that of a biologist to that of a geographer and anthropologist. During his expedition to North America, Cuba, and Mexico in 1874-1875, Ratzel focussed on the German influence in America, especially in the Midwest, resulted in his work Städte-und Kulturbilder aus Nordamerika, which helped establish the field of cultural geography. After his two-volume Anthropogeographie in 1882 and 1891, and his work Politische Geographie in 1897, Ratzel produced this work Die Erde und das Leben (LA TERRA E LA VITA in Italian). Ratzel emphasized the role of environmental circumstances in international relations, the struggle for space and the concept of Lebensraum (living space) originally put forward by the biologist Oscar Penschel in a review of Darwin's On the Origin of Species.; Experience the pleasure of reading and appreciating this actual printed item. It has its own physical history that imbues it with a character lacking in ephemeral electronic renderings.
