Richard Lalor Sheil (1791 – 1851), Irish politician, writer and orator, was born at Drumdowney, Slieverue, County Kilkenny, Ireland. He was admitted a student of Lincoln's Inn, and was called to the Irish bar in 1814. His play of Adelaide, or the Emigrants, was performed at the Crow Street Theatre, Dublin in 1814 and in 1816 performed at Covent Garden.
