Bundling was a sort of practice run at marital compatibility under the family roof; couples were each wound up in cloth or sacks then shared a bed with a bundling board keeping them apart. The tradition originated either in the Netherlands or in the British Isles and later became common in colonial United States, especially in Pennsylvania Dutch Country.
